Fall Recruitment Series: DC Council and the Obama Administration

Are you interested in the New Leaders Council fellowship? Do you want to meet alumni and others in the progressive community? Join the NLC-DC Chapter for a recruitment event with featured talks from two distinguished alumni who continue to make an impact in the community, Christina Henderson and David Heifetz.

FEATURED ALUMNI:

Christina Henderson, Committee Director, Committee on Education - Council of the District of Columbia
Christina Henderson serves as the Director of the Council of the District of Columbia's Committee on Education, which has budget and performance oversight for all matters related to the city’s public education system and libraries. Additionally, Christina crafts and helps advance legislation on an array of issues which deeply impacts D.C.’s public school students including criminal justice, health care, finance and revenue, and transportation and the environment. Christina received her B.A. in Political Science from Furman University in Greenville, SC and her Master in Public Affairs degree from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School for Public and International Affairs.
David Heifetz, 2015 Washington, D.C. NLC Institute Fellow
David Heifetz currently serves as a speechwriter and policy advisor for the White House Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs, where he works on messaging and stakeholder engagement strategy. David was also a 2015 fellow with NLC in Washington, D.C., and prior to his current role, David served as the speechwriter to Senator Chris Coons of Delaware, speechwriter and press secretary to the late New Jersey Senator Frank R. Lautenberg, an intern at West Wing Writers, and the speechwriter and personal aide to Alan Khazei during his 2011 Senate campaign in Massachusetts. David is a native of the Boston area and a graduate of Carleton College in Northfield, MN, where he studied International Relations and Political Economy.
